Fore! A century later !
The very first official golf tournament took place exactly 100 years ago! What a spectacular occasion for a new Brioni Hickory Open Championship!
The last two years, a tiny virus locked us because of the pandemics that little bastard provoked. A bit like back in the early 1920s the so-called “Spanish Flu”. Again, golf players were eager to come back to play . Waiting to step out on the green grass of this mediterranean island and breathe the healing adriatic air. On the open wide meadows, between pines and bushes, walking and playing freely. Dressed in their cozy and merry clothes, carrying their old golf clubs, the same their predecessors wore – a century ago.
In the same time we have another great event to celebrate – the tenth anniversary of the German Golf Hickory Society. Yes, the society was solemly founded on the Old Golf Course Brioni in 2013 !
The Championship has been played April 22nd, 2023 while gathering, practice round and free tour of Brioni Islands on the previous day.
Again, hickroy championship was made possible by the engagement of few enthusiast initiating, moving forward it and helping me. First of all Mr Christoph Meister from Hamburg, president of the European Association of Golf Historians and Collectors.
We remember our late dr. Davor Pikot, first president of Golf klub Pula. Your enthusiasm and joy of working, living and playing golf remains present in all of us who had the privilige to know you. I believe you now play on much broader, heavenly meadows and this one is dedicated to you.
